The Little Book Series

The Little Books are a set of policy publications that aim to present clear and concise information on some of the key issues within the international policy negotitations. Since 2008 the GCP has released three publications under this flagship project:

The Little REDD Book
First released in December 2008 at the UNFCCC climate summit in Poznan, The Little REDD Book is a guide to the UN negotiations on Reducing Emissions from Deforestation and Degradation (REDD). REDD is an international policy mechanism to provide postitive incentives to reduce emissions from deforestation and forest degradation, the cause of around 20% of the world’s carbon emissions. If designed correctly REDD could also help fight poverty and conserve biodiversity and vital ecosystem services.  Since it's launch, The Little REDD Book has been updated four times and has been translated into Bahasa Indonesia, French, Portuguese, Spanish and Simplified Mandarin.

The Little Climate Finance Book
In December 2009, at COP 15 in Copenhagen, the GCP released The Little Climate Finance Book  in collaboration with the Overseas Development Institute, Oxford Institute for Energy Studies and the Australian National University as a guide to the ongoing negotiations on climate finance with a focus on forests. The Little Climate Finance Book has been translated into French, Portuguese and Spanish.

The Little Biodiversity Finance Book

The Little Biodiversity Finance Book is a guide to proactive investment in natural capital (PINC) and an introduction to financing options for biodiversity and ecosystems services. It will be launched on 2oth October at the upcoming UN biodiversity conference in Nagoya, Japan, where leaders will meet to discuss new and innovative ways to finance biodiversity and ecosystems. One of the key elements of the book is an analysis of new sources of finance that could raise up to USD 141 billion by 2020 to help meet the target of halting global biodiversity.

The Little Forest Finance Book
The Little Forest Finance Book’s overarching aim is to catalyse an increase in the finance flowing towards forest-friendly development. The book is a reference for decision makers and project stakeholders within governments, NGOs, the private sector, and forest communities who want to understand where forest finance can be raised, how it can best be managed, and the types of activities that it enables.

It seeks to demystify the forest finance landscape, and presents a clear framework of realistic and widely applicable options for decision makers to catalyse further action and debate in this field. As a non-partisan analysis, the Little Forest Finance Book does not favour one proposal over another. We do hope, however, that our work will aid understanding and encourage collaborative dialogue on this vitally important area of research.
